Risk the Ocean
It’s 11:35pm, Thursday March 10, 2011. I have the song “Sometimes” on repeat.  It’s written by David Crowder and it was released on the new Passion CD.  This song has hit me deeply.  The opening lyrics say: “Sometimes, everyone of us feels like we’ll never be healed, sometimes  Sometimes, everyone of us aches like we’ll never be saved, sometimes.”...

Music
I love music, I always have.  I think I have my mother to blame for that.  Apparently from the very beginning of gracing the world with my presence, music has surrounded me.  I don’t remember at any point in my life when I was completely consumed by a band or artist of some type.  There are a few constants in my life.  Meaning, if you ask me what I’m currently listening too, chances...

Home.
It is Monday, Nov 1.  I have been home for 2 full days.  I am slowly recovering from the 7hour time difference.  I’m able to keep myself up until around 9:30/10pm now before I crash and I am now getting up around 6am, not so bad. Saturday morning I woke up at approx 5:30am after collapsing 9hrs previously.  My head was pounding but I soothed it with a cup of freshly roasted Ethiopian...

Finishing up the packing, going over the lists in my head of everything needed, getting the last of the iPod sync’s complete… I hate traveling, I always feel like I’m forgetting something.

Ethiopia
In 4 days I travel to the other side of the world with 2 good friends.  We have no idea on what is in store for us.  We are going to try and do some good and to help change lives in Ethiopia using what we love to do, photography and film.   We don’t know what the conditions will be when we get there.  We have no idea how the stories will turn out.  We have no idea if we’ll be allowed...

Summer is Over
This is the last Friday for summer.  The kids go back to school this coming Monday.  It seems like only a couple weeks ago we were waiting for them to be done school so we could make our trip to New Brunswick.  That was over in a flash, then a week of nothing followed by a week visit with some great friends from Edmonton.  Summer has been rushing past us ever since.  I feel like it was wasted...

I just came across an ad looking for a lead vocalist/guitar player for a #Nickleback tribute band.  My first question was, “why the frick would anyone want to start a Nickleback tribute band?!?” My second question was, ”why the frick would anyone want to start a Nickleback tribute band?!?”  Let’s start a band that is a poser band of the ultimate poser band.

55 Days.
It’s a very odd thing, time.  As a child Christmas couldn’t come fast enough, the days would drag on and on then before I knew it, the tree was down, the toys were boring and it was still freezing outside.  It was then a new countdown would begin, one for summer vacation.  When I was a kid if you had told me what I’d be doing when I was 33 years of age, that would have seemed a...

“and a word to you who work in retail, you can’t be an (explicit) and work in a retail. And I don’t mean an (explicit) because you’re angry from dealing with stupid people all day, but you’re an (explicit) because you think you’re better than everyone else.  SO WHAT, you work at Banana Republic! So you get 50% off of $200 shirts.  If you are over 24 years of age...

Avatar Special Edition
Really, James Cameron, is this actually necessary?  It’s bad enough you stole the story of Pocahontas and called it your own “10 years in the making”… now you have to release it again with “never before seen footage”? This seems just a little insecure, don’t you think?

The Lost Symbol.
I enjoyed the novel, just like I’ve enjoyed Dan Brown’s other novels (yes, even the Da Vinci Code).  It’s a good story, but it’s just a story… I wonder how long until people create effigies of Dan Brown and burn them, again? Like the Da Vinci Code, I’m sure there will be those who believe what Dan B wrote to be true, just because he uses actual landmarks and...

mmm... "Chicken" McPoison, I mean nugget.
McDonald’s Chicken McNugget is 56% corn — and the other ingredients are mostly very bad, which makes this very popular meal poison… “What else is in a McDonald’s Chicken McNugget? Besides corn, and to a lesser extent, chicken, The Omnivore’s Dilemma describes all of the thirty-eight ingredients that make up a McNugget one of which I’ll bet...

Tourist
It’s odd being a tourist in the city that you grew up in.  I haven’t been back to New Brunswick since 4 years ago and before that it was only 3 times over the last 10 years.  It has been good to see and catch up with family, but I never thought it would be this much fun taking my kids to see the area through “tourist” eyes.  Yesterday was Magnetic Hill (which my wife was...

Just Do It
I hate those 3 words.  Mainly because Nike killed them and all I can hear in my head when they are said is Bo Jackson.  As some of you may know, I’ve been struggling with this trip to Ethiopia and purpose behind it.  Not because I don’t believe in what we’re doing or that I think I’m making a huge mistake… I just keep coming back to, “Why me, what do I have to...
